National Hispanic Life Science Society appoints Joel Villegas as Executive Director

Friday, March 5 – Chicago, IL

The National Hispanic Life Sciences Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Joel Villegas as a new Executive Director. Mr. Villegas formerly served as a Project Manager for NHLSS, and is a founding member of the Society’s management team. Mr. Villegas is a successful entrepreneur and established young business leader in the Hispanic community.  He converted a part-time job into a highly respected Chicagoland business enterprise with over 40 commercial clients. In addition to his entrepreneurial successes, Mr. Villegas is also committed to various humanitarian works, including fundraising and event planning for a local non-profit.

Ms. Christine Cantarino, Chairman of the NHLSS Executive Council and Mr. Rodrigo Garcia, Chairman of the NHLSS Board of Directors, released a joint statement: “From the perspective of both the Executive Council and the Board of Directors, we are confident that Joel Villegas will be an exemplary Executive Director and play a key role in helping the Society remain on its positive growth trajectory.”

The Executive Director is tasked with representing NHLSS externally with key stakeholders in the community and life science industry.  The role also includes responsibility for insuring that internal operations run at peak performance. “I have full confidence that Joel will excel in this role and represent the Society well within and beyond the organization,” said Dr. James Gillespie, President, NHLSS.

The National Hispanic Life Sciences Society continues to move toward its envisioned role as the premier worldwide organization for Hispanic and Latino life sciences professionals and groups. This latest appointment occurs near the beginning of what is expected to be a very productive and active 2012 for NHLSS. Further updates will be released about meetings, events, and other business. The organization benefits enormously from having such talented, driven individuals who are united under a common goal and continues to uphold that standard among its members.

“I am honored to have been selected to take on this key leadership role at NHLSS.  I look forward to representing the interests of the Society, its members, its supporters, and the Latino community.  Working in partnership with our distinguished Executive Council and Board of Directors, as well as my colleagues on the NHLSS management team, I am confident the Society has an extraordinarily bright future,” said Mr. Villegas.  He expressed particular excitement about the NHLSS “Diversity & Clinical Trials” symposium on June 14, 2012 and the NHLSS led “Latin America Life Science Markets” symposium on July 12, 2012.
